I do a lot of listening, I have a lot of bus journey time to kill you see and this week I’ve added a new lease of life to my playlist, here’s an insight.
Beehive – Gaffa Tape Sandy
This one I really can’t stop playing. The passion in the chorus to the image in my head of dancing to this live gets me from start to finish. Although in some distant way this song reminds me of Bartender and the Thief – stereophonics, the female vocals give a new wave rebellious air about this tune. This three piece band definitely have more in them than a couple of singles and an ep and a (in my opinion) fantastic name. Keep an eye out. They definitely could play into that black honey/ anteros vibe everyone’s loving.
Lover’s Eyes – Mumford and Sons
This is a golden oldie to me already. This has been on my acoustic playlist for a fair amount of time now. Despite Babel showing it’s face in 2012, which I refuse to believe, the lyrics to this will always remain pertinent to me. There’s something effortlessly artistic about the harmonies within such heartfelt and somewhat harrowing lyrics.
Antonio America – Diskopunk
Now this ones really funky. I love a good contemporary groove normally from no hot ashes or bad sounds, but diskopunk I can now add to that list. This Swedish self proclaimed dance band emerged in 2016 but this is my first conscious crossing with them. Their electronic sound is something I don’t tend to steer towards but echoes that of bad sounds that I am definitely not offended by. I’m planning to delve a bit deeper into this 5 piece’s Spotify library.
Call Me When It’s Over – Bayonet
This song proper transports me, I find myself swaying away, similar to Beehive I can imagine this being class live. This 4 piece definitely have a very ‘now’ feel and I’m sure will follow in the footsteps of bands like Cassia. Their feel good love song had a somewhat eclectic 80s pop feel (I’m not complaining). I haven’t yet taken full advantage of all their releases yet, but I’m willing to give them a go. Also I’m calling it now that this track will probably feature on the next series of Made In Chelsea.
Like a Virgin – Madonna
Does this one really need explaining? Is there a better shower song out there? I feel like I’ve been showering in the 80s this week and I’ve loved every minute. You can’t not dance and sing to this one. Even though Pitch Perfect ruined this a bit for me (maybe shouldn’t have admitted that), this will always be a classic feel good song to fall back on.
