Put it on repeat – January 2017

I go through phases with my music, some months my playlist is completely stagnant and other times I have new stuff finding itself there daily. But this month I’ve gone back to some old favourites and found some new ones, so here are the songs that I haven’t stopped listening to this month.

Follow my playlist here to keep up to date with what I’m listening to.

Risk to exist – Maximo Park
Maximo park have been around for years, I can’t imagine that you haven’t heard of them. But they released this single on 20th January. It starts out with quite an expected drum roll but overall has quite an upbeat and pop-esque feel to it. It’s definitely one I can imagine dancing in a crowd to and belting my heart out to.

Delete – DMA’s
DMA’s have been receiving quite a lot of hype for a while now but this is the first song of theirs I’ve properly got into. It’s more of an acoustic feel but shows off the lead singers voice to be comforting and powerful; there’s a noticeable amount of passion in this song. The Australian band have been compared to the likes of Oasis and are definitely going to grow even further. I think this year will see them grow a lot.

Chevy thunder – Spector
Chevy thunder is nothing new, and has been a belter since it’s release in early 2012. It never fails to put me in a good mood or to stick in my head for days. (My dad’s annoyed at how much I’ve been playing this one recently and he blames me for him waking up at 3 am with it in his head). I challenge you to find a song that is better to jam along to.

I don’t love anyone (but you’re not just anyone) – Peter Doherty
This is a track of his new album ‘Hamburg Demonstrations’. It begins with quite a folk/psychedelic feel, before the drums and vocals kick in. Libertines and Babyshambles vocalist, Peter Doherty’s rough voice brings a comfortable effortless feel to the track. I can’t help but sway along when this one comes on.

Edge of seventeen – Stevie Nicks
I have to admit that I do get slightly disappointed when the intro to this comes on and it isn’t Destiny’s Child, but you can’t complain with this song. This song possibly has one of the catchiest chorus’ and hooks ever. Let’s be honest, you can’t go very far wrong with Stevie.

Pinball Wizard – The Who
This song has crept back into my repertoire- I’m sure my dad used to play it when we were younger. This month has clearly been a month for me liking powerful belters and this is the epitome of that. I highly recommend this song for the shower, it’s a timeless classic. (The lyrics to this one almost remind me of Squeeze in some areas).

6AM – Clay
I saw Clay play at the Deaf Institute in December not knowing any of their songs. They’re definitely not my usual style but this song is particularly catchy and was really special live. This songs quite heavily electronic and, myself, would put it in the indie-pop genre. I’d say Clay were part of quite a trendy group of bands at the moment. They definitely have more to come and already have a strong fan base.
